Exploring evaluation methods for computer games

I am currently working with Dr Chek Tien Tan to explore/compare current methods used for evaluating computer games. Besides evaluating the strengths/weaknesses of current apporaches, we are hoping to propose new tools/approaches that can offer a more robust and nuanced understanding of the gaming experience.

New position in Sydney, Australia:

As of the 1st of October 2012, I begin a new job as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Based in the Faculty of Engineering and IT, I am part of the Centre for Human Centred Technology Design Research (HCTD) group. Further details to come.

Recently acceptance for publication:

Iversen, O.S., Halskov, K, & Leong, T.W., (2012) Values-led Participatory Design, in Journal of CoDesign, 8:2-3, 87-103.

Abstract: The widespread use of participatory design (PD) has meant that different approaches and conceptualisations exist in this field today. In this article, it is argued that one fruitful approach is to rekindle a concern for values in design, focusing upon values as the engine that drives activities in PD. Drawing from the authors' own PD projects, this article shows how this can be accomplished: through designers enacting their appreciative judgement of values by engaging in a dynamic and dialogical process of cultivating the emergence of values, developing them and supporting their grounding.
